Buckley goes gah-gah on Rich Rod.

Discussion on Rich Rodriguez and the Arizona Football team

But, of course, he has to trot out the standard BS that every ASu mouthbreather mouths: he will be leaving if he keeps this up.

Yeah, that Florida possibility crossed my mind once again the other night after we beat Oregon and we were the talk of the sports world. You know he will be either at the top or very near near the top of their list. So the question is, how "happy" is RR in the desert? He's saying all the right things - I mean what coach says he WANTS to bail when the time is right?

Remember we were all convinced he was as good as gone to Louisville last year?

All?? I didn't think there was a snowball's chance in hell that he was going to Louisville. I don't think he's going anywhere.

Florida could probably lure RR if they wanted just based on 2 things: 1) they could give him double his UA pay and 2). Florida recruiting and top ten program in fan support and unlimited funds.

That said, I think UF is too arrogant to even try for a Rich Rod. Their fans would cry and bellyache they they are hiring a guy who didn't make it at Michigan. I just lived in those parts for 16 years and I know their fans well. They will have a fit. No, the Gators are going to steal Dan Mullen from Miss St, who was the former Gator QB coach and then OC under Urban Meyer. He's got MSU to #3 right now and that is the new Gator head coach.

Good point, Jones re: Mullen. Also, the fact that RR has bolted for "greener pastures" before (with subpar results) might keep him here longer if and when he decides it's time to leave. Regardless, this is, far and away, the best coaching staff ever assembled in Tucson and here's hoping/wishing he retires here….

I also think we need to consider that our profile and abilities and funding and compensation are growing with the program. W no longer have to accept that we will lose a successful coach...we have facilities, money, a huge population for a college - only town, and boosters that have been stepping up to meet the growing needs to remain competitive in both marquee sports.

And we also have one specific advantage...we have a head coach that got absolutely savaged by the movers and shakers inside a historically power program, to the point of almost destroying his career. He might have a different view of "moving up" as long as the program he is at can adequately grow and improve to meet his abilities.

Completely agree with you Doug. I think a lot of time, when we are younger and beginning our careers, the goals is always climb the ladder.

However, as we get older, sometimes we realize that certain levels bring with it added negative aspects that do not outweigh the benefits.

Maybe Florida is a better AD than Michigan, and maybe the Alumns and former players and coaches are not completely trying to sabotage the Head Coach. But I am going to guess that whoever takes on that position will need to deal with power struggles, egos and expectations that just make those jobs that much harder.

Meanwhile, RichRod at Arizona has about a solid a position as any HC in the country, and is at an AD that is committed to winning and committed to competing.
