I'd rather have respect than constantly be complaining about not getting it. This is how you get a McKenzie or keep a Tabor...sell a ranked program.

10 may be high, but it increases our chances of finishing the season in the top 25. I don't understand being weary of earned national respect. No Arizona football player is going to get too big of a head to focus against USC.

Take the ranking and all the attention that comes with it, and build this thing. Freshman QB and RBs, youth throughout the 2 deep...this is only going to get better. If we aren't worthy of this ranking yet, then we will lose it and reset. But I would rather this be the issue than being the forever respect seeking little guy with the Mountain West Conference- sized chip on the shoulder.

I said top 15 but a #10 ranking is an incredible jump! Just goes to show how the AP writers feel about a team playing at Oregon and coming out with a win. I think the whole idea about staying grounded is a little overrated anyways - it comes down to how our players take it. If they are ready to pack in the season after just playing 5 games and earning a Top 10 ranking then we're gonna get spanked soon enough and most likely on Saturday. If the players want to show how deserving we are of being a Top 10 team then practice should be very spirited this week. It all comes down to our players in dealing with this news. . .

Understand I want Arizona to win every game we play this season. Every game. The rankings are a sports writer's wet dream scape. They mean nothing until the end of regular season.

I prefer for Arizona to remain ranked lower rather than higher. Here is why. If you take two teams of similar talent. Team A is ranked in the top five teams in the country. Team B is ranked low or not ranked. Team and and B play a game. Team A reads the polls and says we are better than they are. They can't match us in our skill positions so we should win easily. Team B says we are as good as they are, but we are not ranked. So we have to play extra hard to show we belong.

Team A thinks they have an easy game. Team B thinks they have a hard game. Team A has their subs leading cheers and dancing on the bench. Team B is scraping and clawing for a win.

I just think rankings are fun and nice, but have no impact as to how our team of So Cal kids and 2 and 3 star recruits is going to prepare for USC this week.

So why not have fun with it? Rank us #1. Put us on a magazine cover that I can frame. None of this is real life anyway, so why not shoot for the top? Why always be the scrappy upstart? Hang that high ranking on the wall, stare at it and smile, and then play the next game. I have always thought too much is made of those kinds of motivational ploys anyway...on the field, it is about who executes. By play 1, no one going to care about rankings.

And it is too early. Way too early. There shouldn't even be a poll until week 7 or 8. But there is one, and we are in the top 10 and can sing that in the ear of our recruits..
