I stopped going to our games at SDS. No game is worth having a life ruined by a sucker punch, or an assault charge, or what have you. I can see the game just fine from home. I do go when in our stadium, and I understand the chance of confrontation is still there. I won't start it. I just figure I have too much to lose, and the person taking the result of a game to physical level has nothing to lose, or will soon have nothing to lose because, well, impulse control.
Reading SI this last week about Alabama/Auburn, and the woman who was shot outside a bar by another Alabama fan for not showing proper anger after the game. The deceased made the mistake of laughing and not really caring all that much about the results of a football game, and that was enough for a fellow Alabama "fan" to shoot her.
I obsess over sports way too much. It isn't healthy, I don't think. But the idea of having actual hate for someone for the school they attended is so, well...mentally ill. Sports hate, I understand and even condone. It makes this all fun. Real hate?
