One idiot "causes a stir" with something he pulls out of his rear end. Media types read each other's crap on-line, so it gets repeated as though it must be authoritative based on proximity, and suddenly you have a hot rumor that's based on absolutely nothing. We've seen a lot of that recently. Just a way to fill space when you've got nothing else to write about. It's the same thing when a newspaper writer does an interview for an out-of-town radio station as the big local expert and throws out a bunch of unfounded opinions and rumors. There should be a level of responsibility in making it clear there's no insider knowledge when a writer throws something out there. But, they love to have people believe they know all, and don't care if they get people stirred up. I gather that's actually the goal, as opposed to, oh say...reporting the news. And then they get defensive, like little irresponsible kids, when they get called-out for causing problems for no good reason.
