Sounds like there is some movement on revenue and

stadium upgrades. Byrne is reported to have spoken with student leaders about a fee to help fund a stadium upgrade. Hansen (I know, I know) stated that Byrne said the new design could take 2 years, add seat backs and reduce capacity. Damn, I was hoping that our stadium would be larger than ASu's for awhile.

So GB is going with seat backs rather than Hansen's recommendation to put in a new east side upper deck that isn't so steep? Who'd have thunk?

Boy what I wouldn't give to have my OWN freakin' seat at the stadium.... if you're unlucky enough to sit next to someone the size of Freddie Tagaloa, you're pretty much toast for 3.5 hours.

They're already going to put in seat backs and drink holders in the east side 100 level (under the overhang) before next season. Some people will get moved around, so I hope there isn't too much upheaval. As the McKale upgrade proved, moving people around can be a little traumatic.

My seats are over there. We are in row 40 and have had to rent seat backs always. The seats above us had backs, but not us. We got some backup eats in the NEZ which are much cheaper than our seats in sec 105, and much more comfortable. I truly do hope se do not get moved as I sit next to an old friend that I played ball with. I also hope the price for my tickets does not go up.

Bearing Down on the carrot and the stick; seat backs may equal higher seat prices

Yeah, I'm waiting to see if there's a price increase. But the main thing is that I also sit next to an old friend for football, and separating us wouldn't be a good thing. That already happened in hoops, where a different old friend's single was moved across the aisle. Then we had them take out the drink holders anyway, as I got caught on them every time I jump up. But, the padded seats in McKale are nice. No padding for football, I assume. They just need to keep the bird patrol active with the Formula 409 and towels prior to the game. Damn pigeons.

I would assume a fairly substantial price increase (30-50%?) with the nice seats. When we moved from the south end zone to the north (not exactly apples to apples, I know, but they are still end zone seats) the increase in price was dramatic, like 3 times as much. That being said, we love the north end zone!

That "idea" of Hansen's ranks right up there with his recent Big-12 talk. Dufus.

If it is mainly for seat backs and bathroom upgrades it seems odd for the students to fund refurbishments they get no benefit from. They stand the whole game and the bathrooms that need the most work are on the east side. Weren't we also bashing ASu for imposing a manditory sports fee to fund issues like this a year or two ago? Most of the money should come from the general public and not from parents trying to put their kid through school.

When is the last time you've been to a bathroom on the east side? Those bathrooms on the south east corner on the 2nd level haven't been expanded or upgraded I'm guessing since they were put in back in the 1960s. Agree with El Gato about having a larger stadium than tempe. Unfortunately, it appears that Byrne is continuing his quest to reduce the stadium capacity. The original plant for the NEZ I was told by Dr. Shelton at a tailgate was around 65K JL said 62.5. Then Bryrne came up withj under 58K and I still have no idea how he managed to do that if you look at the area covered and the sizew of the old bleachers and come up with fewer ove3rall seats. But I have been assured it is fewer seats unless you include the terraced SRO. If GB keeps reducing capacity we should modify Hansen's helpful suggestion and petition Big Sky or WAC/MWC for admission so we could get away from Scott, officiating et al. We already have a Big Sky/WAC level OOC schedule. Have heard second hand that GB's capacity reduction is based on a way to increase pricesa based on supply and demand which seems to me to be kind of backwards thinking.I personally prefer a stadium look of 65,000 filled seats rather than 45,000 with lots of sky boxes. Either way we will need a higher level of competitiveness on the field.
