How good is Stanford at this recruiting thing?

OL Matt Gutwald chose to WALK ON at Stanford over one of the 20+ DI offers he had. Not sure if he had an academic scholarship or qualifies for Stanford's free tuition program.

It could be either since Stanford can admit anyone they want to. They are a private school.
