This one to me is a BiG head scratcher. You get top flight recruits to come to play for you when you have a resume that says you put them in the pros. Maybe from some physical development stand point he has? You have to trust RR, he has been around and took a big step losing long time assistants and I assume friends, but this seemed like a spot to put a more established name in there. I assume Yates wanted this? We shall see.

I think this was the "fall back" guy. He lacks experience but this is his big shot. I can only assume the staff can see some great upside in him.

I think it's safe to say that we all would have been impressed and ecstatic if we pulled in Hunley or Joe. I think the pendulum has swung in the opposite direction. We went from a veteran/close-to-retirement DL guy with a lot to teach who didn't recruit to a young/I-assume-hungry guy with no college coaching experience who I suspect will pound the shit out of the recruiting trail. That's been the theme of the turnover. Win the recruiting battles, win the games.

Will it work? We shall see. As BayCat points out above, it's easier to recruit if you've coached guys into the league. It may help that a lot of the top guys feel they'll go the league anyway, regardless of where they go to school. It does help, though, that Amey *played* in the NFL. He's been there and knows what it takes to stick (or not in his case [sorry]).
