Seeding And "No Easy Baskets"

Wich st an 11 seed was ridiculous.....pick em vs 6 seed arizona and -2 vs 3 seed miami is all you need to know abouy how bad a job the comm did.....oh and ore state being a 5 point dog as a 7 seed? Nice work.

This. As well as sending 6-seed Seton Hall all the way to Denver, while sending 6-seed Arizona all the way to Providence, instead of vice-versa to minimize travel costs and so their respective fans could travel and see them. Why?

Meanwhile, what ever happened to "no easy baskets?" In the words of Lou Brown of Major League fame: "What's with this 'ole' shit?" If you turn away and let somebody blow past you for a layup, you should be on the bench...maybe permanently. Worse if you give a weak foul and make it 3 points. If you're beat, hack 'em hard and let's see if they miss one of the free throws.

And don't get beat in the first place.

Miller needs to go back to square one with his defense. Mix in some zone briefly just to cause some confusion on a possession here and there, and how about some occasional pressure before the game's out of hand? And let's see some bodies laying out on the floor going after a ball the way McConnell used to do it. If the only way to get some hot-shot recruits to "A Player's Program" is to play everybody regardless of effort, then give me a few more blood-and-guts unranked guys like McConnell. I got a little tired of watching Ristic and Tollefson and York play "defense" this year.

Re: Point Guard U?

The only PG that worked out was TJ McConnell, and he was a transfer. Lyons was ok for one year, but again transfer and he also was more of a 2.

Momo was decent, but he was playing out of position and was more like a 2.

Jordin Mayes was not Arizona good.

Josiah Tuner was a bust

Nick Johnson played some 1, but he was not a point guard.

PJC is not Arizona good (not sure why Miller even recruited him...too small to make a difference and be a #1 starter).

Allen is not a point guard.

So we are entering year 8 and Miller still hasnt recruited a stud PG out of high school that can live up to the name of the school.

I look at this year's class and I still don't see one! Is Kobi a true #1 PG or is he more of a 2? From what I've read he's a 2.

I shudder to think that we have PJC and Kadeem coming back to share #1 next season!!! If that's the case, we can expect a lot of the same problems to pop up again next season with no floor leader, regardless of who else comes in or leaves.

It is concerning but in this day and age of college basketball recruiting involves hs kids, transfers and grad transfers so he should get credit for tj and lyons

Pjc, mayes, turner are all fails (I still dont know what he saw in pjc)

Im hoping he finds a grad transfer who can play the 1 next year.....and preferably someone who can start!

This. I agree that the team is a PG away, and I don't trust anyone on this roster to be able to get the most out of the talent we have, as well as coming in. I thought that Allen and PJC played some very important minutes and games during the season. But they're not the type of elite PG needed. There also needs to be someone who'll move the "give-a-shit" meter towards the proper setting. Didn't seem to have that guy this year. Or enough of it guy this year.

I hate it when the "defender" runs in front of the guy on the break, like it's going to bother him. I miss Nick Johnson actually attempting to block the breakaways and probably blocking them half the time. He seemed to actually relish the opportunity.

I miss aaron gordon and rhonde being such studs that they could guard and shut down anyone from a 1 to a 5

This year's team lacked elite athletes like RHJ and Gordon. Maybe Ray Smith would have been that guy, but we won't know until he plays next year. Trier and York aren't bad athletes, but neither can jump out of the gym or run like a gazelle like Gordon, or is cat-like quick like RHJ. Someone said after the PAC-12 tournament that it was strange not having the best athletes on the floor when we played Oregon. Very true, but also likely to change with a healthy Smith and next year's recruiting class. Not to mention Chance Commanche, who is an athletic big and just starting to show flashes of what he is capable of. If CC does the freshmen to sophomore jump that Lute used to talk about, he'll likely be next year's PAC-12 Most Improved Player.
