The Non-Existant "Rivalry" With Colorado

Discussion on Sean Miller and the Arizona Basketball team

I'm sure somebody will link today's Hansen column on the subject, but he's one of the people who earlier incorrectly stated that Colorado's claims had some validity. Unless you're desperate for an angle to write about, there IS no rivalry unless players, fans, and media from BOTH schools feel that way and things are pretty even. You can't just join a new league and declare you're "going after" the top team, so therefore there's some rivalry. That's just self-promotion, as you're trying to say you're just as good as that top team. So, we saw their players waving their arms and rolling their eyes when calls went against them in games against us, and we heard them shooting their mouths off to the media. After every loss, it's been "we'll get them next time." Well, it's six straight games, and mostly blowouts. And, to our players, these guys have always just been nobodies who talk big. I'm sorry Colorado football (which used to be pretty big) has sucked for the last ten years, they pinned all their hopes to basketball, and that fell through. But that's the way it is.

Perhaps they can claim a rivalry in the quality and quantity of marijuana consumed in the state. It is one are that they can compete with anyone in. In fact perhaps that is the source of all the other rivalry talk they come up with.

Bearing Down on they do have some vintage Grateful Dead bicycles and Coors beer to brag about also 8-)

When Lute built up UA basketball he did so by first playing anyone, anywhere. Then started to beat anyone, anywhere. All he talked about was his teams and let his teams accomplishments on the court do the talking.

Boyle could and should learn a thing or two from that.

As much respect Boyle seems to have amongst the talking heads and fellow coaches, he sure comes off as petulant every time I catch a CU game or his press conferences. Get better players and coach them better, Tad.

As I said in an earlier post. Washington used to make the same claim. So did Oregon. Based on recent records, I believe ASu has a better claim than Colorado.
It's beginning to feel a lot like 1993
