It seems pretty clear that lefty J.C. Cloney is our #1 pitcher. Nathan Bannister seems like #2, whether he pitches Saturdays or Sundays. Bobby Dalbec is the closer. Beyond that, lefty Cameron Ming is a shaky #3 for the moment, and we'll see if he settles in, or if Mike Flynn or somebody can challenge for that role. Cody Moffett has pitched sparingly in relief so far, and don't know if they'd like to try him as a starter or not. Beyond that, it's the sky-high ERAs that can happen in limited innings, with the innings scattered among a lot of pitchers. As far as hitting goes, that's generally been fine, although Dalbec and Jared Oliva are in early-season slumps. J.J. Matijevic is leading the team in hitting at .368, followed by Louis Boyd at .357, Ryan Aguilar at .343, freshman Alfonso Rivas at .333, Zach Gibbons at .314, and Cody Ramer at .310. There may still be some position-juggling to field the best hitting lineup. Now that we've got the big season-opening 7-game road trip out of the way with the Rice series win, and the wins at San Diego State and with Cal State Fullerton, the next big games will be opening the Pac-12 on the road at Seattle March 18th. The March 24th series with UCLA at Hi Corbett Field also looms large.
