Question for you recruiting gurus...

Postby El Gato » Thu Mar 03, 2016 10:46 am

It seems like the staff is pumping out offers right now. Is this the normal timeline? Are we making up for lost ground? Or is this staff taking a more aggressive approach with evaluating and offering?

Re: Not a recruiting guru but

I am really not a recruiting guru but it seems the whole recruiting game has changed in ways that are different than ever before. It is a universe that I watch but have never been to.

For me, I think it just seems different because of Twitter

I've had an account for a while, but only recently started using it. Every recruit it seems now uses it to blast nearly identical "Truly blessed to receive an offer from [school name]" tweets, which are almost immediately retweeted by at least three guys I follow (Matt Moreno, Brad Allis and Zack Rozenblatt). I also check the 247 site a lot, which posts timely updates on offers and related news.

It's probably not much different than it usually is.... I'm just noticing it more.

That said, the buzz seems genuine, as evidenced by RR's comments yesterday.

I subscribe to Wildcat Authority mainly to follow recruiting. It's definitely a different vibe since the new defensive coaching staff has come on board, including Yates, Williams, and Addae. Many more higher rated recruits than usual with more offers from better programs than the norm. And judging by the buzz, including the recent commitment by highly rated Greg Johnson, we appears to be in a better position than usual. This board is filled with veteran posters, so we all know nothing is given until signing day, but the buzz seems real and I'm excited for the first time in a long time about our recruiting class for 2017 and beyond.

We'd pump out those offers quite a bit in the past, but seems as though the staff is doing it with a bit more discretion. I think with the earlier start to spring ball, you have more kids able to come watch practice which is when a lot of offers come. Spring Break coming for different schools, so I'd assume a bunch more visitors which could lead to even more offers.

I kind of wonder if the timing of the early spring ball schedule has anything to do with the timing of the recruiting cycle. As in, while other teams are tied-up with on-field coaching and media relations, we can be in the homes of players with some exclusivity. Maybe not, but as was mentioned earlier, the process has definitely changed in the last few years.
